We’re really sorry to announce that the GMD Minecraft server is no more. We’ve had great fun running it for the past three years, and we hope you’ve had fun playing on it!
Why has it shut down?
The server was originally started as a Minecraft server for our GivMehDiamonds YouTube subscribers to play on and build a community. It rapidly grew into a large, sprawling active community, and we added many new maps and minigames throughout the years.
Unfortunately, for the past year or so the player count has dropped dramatically, and the YouTube channel itself has mostly moved away from Minecraft. We’ve kept the server running for as long as we possibly can, but we feel that now is the time to close it.
Can’t you just keep it running?
Servers cost money to run – While this wasn’t a problem when so many people were using it and our amazing donators helped pay some of the costs (thank you!), we can’t justify spending the amount of money required to run it any more as it’s usually empty most of the time.
Can I pay for the server?
Thanks for the offer, but no. We really don’t like the idea of having to ask for donations every time a bill is due, and we don’t think it’s worth your money to keep the server running for such a small number of players.
Wait, is the YouTube channel closing?
No. The GivMehDiamonds YouTube channel will continue creating the content you love – we’re just stopping the Minecraft server.
How can I still talk to my friends on the server? Where will we all go?
We understand that the Minecraft server was more than just a server to, it was a whole community. We’ve arranged some places for you all to keep in touch:
We have an official Steam group – you can use this much like our old forums to keep in touch with GMD players, have discussions and play games together.
The official TeamSpeak server will also be hosted by Pricetx for the time being, just connect to ts.givmehdiamonds.com with TeamSpeak 3 – if you’ve connected before, it should work just as before.
You might have also noticed that there’s a mini Minecraft server running on givmehdiamonds.com right now – This is mainly to announce that the server has closed, and is only temporary.
Of course there’s always the YouTube channel too.
Finally, for those who know how to use IRC, our official IRC channel is #givmehdiamonds on geekshed.net
What about all my creations?
The worlds from the server are available for you to download using the button below – within reason you can do whatever you want with them, but please make sure you read the information on the download page before downloading them. Bear in mind that the main worlds are pretty huge, and most of the commands (like towny and teleports) won’t work.
